Our Story

Founded as College Heights Baptist Church on September 12, 1954, (later changed to University Heights Baptist Church) 97 people formed the church with great personal sacrifice to  minister to the local community and University students and encourage them to have meaningful fellowship and experience a growing knowledge of Jesus Christ based on God's Word.  Over the years, though the church has added buildings, pastors have changed, and people have come and gone based on their University experience, jobs, and life-change, the foundation has not changed.  As UHBC celebrates 70 years we maintain the same focus on Christ as the foundation of the church with the goal of encouraging our community and University students to join us in growing in Christ through authentic worship in a safe and loving environment of grace.

At UHBC we realize that life-change and ministry is not just internal, but often best experienced in the local community.  Therefore, we have partnered with other organizations and community groups to provide practical needs in our local community such as lunch and breakfast for University students, food resource center "Our Daily Bread", Wings of Hope Family Crisis Center,  providing needed school supplies for local children,  Christmas food boxes to families, and supporting young women in crisis with Shiloh's Place.  We are a church that serves because of our life-change that comes through Jesus Christ.

Based on the foundation of God's Word and our own mission and vision at UHBC, we want to first continue grow spiritually ourselves through God's Word, but then find additional and new practical ways to share our lives and God's love with others.  Therefore, we will continue to aggressively seek new ways we can show the love of Christ to our community through practical ways such as classes on health and safety, meet practical needs such as food and clothing, and continue to create an environment of grace for University students and anyone who steps on our campus.  This philosophy will drive how we look at our buildings, our outreach, our missions, and our passionate desires.  This is a GREAT TIME to be part of University Heights Baptist Church!
